Walk for Animals

Today I attended Farm Sanctuary's annual Walk for Animals in Northport. Coordinator Deb Hollm lead the walk this year and thanks to her we were able to show our support for the cause. There was a turn out of about 50 people and the fundraisers of the group totaled close to $2000! Its good to know there are people out there that want to make a difference.

The Walk for Animals is held all over the states and has been more successful each year.  All money raised goes to helping abused animals and allows Farm Sanctuary to keep doing what it does best. The main message of the event is to spread awareness about factory farming, how animals are treated and how it affects the environment.  It is doing great damage to the planet and the animals who suffer don't deserve it.

There were a couple of passerby's that took pamphlets and stopped out of interest which is always a good thing.  Despite the chilly morning, we completed our 2 mile route successfully. People of all ages came out for the event and showed their support and pride for the cause. Hopefully, we made the residents of Northport think about the issue and become more aware of the problems that affect us all.

Living a cruelty-free life is a happy one.  Knowing in your heart that all Earthlings matter leads you down a guilt-free and harmonious path that will someday change the world.

Nature's Goodies

I read a lot of magazines so I can get as much information as I can about everything. Besides books they are a great way to gain knowledge about healthy living and a green lifestyle. Here are some cool facts I came across. Just some great things that natures gifts keep on giving.

Olive Oil is great for your skin as well as being a healthy fat for your body. It's said that women who include olive oil in their diets have less skin damage and wrinkles. Sounds good to me! I actually use an olive oil lotion and I love it. Here are some products that use the ingredient wisely.

Thymes Olive Leaf Triple-Milled Bar Soap

Kiss My Face Olive/Aloe Natural Moisturizer

L'Occitane Organic Olive Tree Moisturizing Face Lotion

Creme d'Olives

Pears are not only delicious, they are packed with fiber and vitamin C. Both are great for your body and your skin. Here are some products that highlight the powers of the pear.

100% Pure - Organic Honey and Pear Nourishing Body Cream

B. Witching Bath Co. - Golden Pear Liquid Soap

Naturopathica - Pear and Fig Polishing Enzyme Peel

Aloe is an amazing plant. It can do more than soothe sunburn. Check out these other great things aloe can do.
- Use a dab on canker sores and cold sores. It will help fight the pain and also make the sores heal faster.
- Do you swim a lot? Chlorine is not that great for your skin or your hair, which I am sure you already know. Well aloe has vitamin C and E that helps nourish damaged hair chlorine can cause. Try this concoction once a week and you should see a diference: Combine 1/2 cup of aloe vera gel, 1/2 cup castile soap and 1/2 tsp of jojoba oil. Leave in for 10 minutes and use as a pre-shampoo treatment. You can find more awesome tricks like this in Lina Hanson's book, Eco-Beautiful-The Ultimate Guide to Natural Beauty and Wellness.
- Use aloe on cuts and burns after you've washed them with soap and water. The aloe will help to stimulate growth which will help it heal faster. It can also help prevent future scarring. Check out more handy tips in The Clear Diet by Alan Logan.

Not only is cilantro great in Mexican food, its other uses really come in handy. It helps bloating and can help ease sore joints and muscles. Just rub 2 tsbp of chopped fresh cilantro and 1/4 cup of aloe vera gel on the spot and you're good to go. This yummy herb can also kill salmonella and E. coli so use it in a marinade come dinner time. Surprisingly, it can calm irritated skin too.

You see, nature's goodies can do amazing things. Do your research and get the facts. Not everything needs chemicals, medicine or a doctor. Nature's remedies are safe and worth trying. Good Luck!

Kids at Play

When I was young I had a wild imagination. Being an only child I had no choice! I loved to play with my dolls and pretend I was teaching a class or running a store with my little cash register. Those were the days. However, the one thing I loved more than anything when I was small was my Annie mansion. It was so friggin cool. I wish I still had it today.

Kids love to play with figurines and what better way to push their imagination than giving them a dollhouse. They are on every girls, and some boys, wish list. Here are some I found that are really cool. A unique way of reinventing the doll house. Check these out for sure.

Mobile Home - Hip From Holland
This house has 8 rooms, spy holes and an attic for storage. It's easy to put together and light to carry, not to mention easy to store when not in use. It folds flat! Your kids can decorate it any way they want too. So modern and so cool.

Tree House - Creative Toy Shop
How cool is this! Brought to you by the company Calafant who makes awesome cardboard models. Another great idea with so much room for creativity and its only $25!

My First Dollhouse - Hape
I love how this doll house is sturdy and will last forever. It's made out of plywood and maple wood and has a clean modern design.

Tree Trunk Fairy Home - Magic Cabin
I fell in love with this house. Being a fan of fantasy themes, how could I not! With a puzzle base and three floors your child is sure to have fun with this one. Check out the other dollhouses this shop has too.

Adventurer's Tropical Tree House - Hearth Song
Whoa! Talk about a tree house. There is no doubt your kid will jump for joy and be amazed when they see this!

Akawelle

I came across this website, akawelle.com, in Lucky magazine and just fell in love with it. Lovetta Conto is a brave and positive girl who is a great role model for all of us. Having fled Liberia with her father at a young age she has decided to share her experiences through creativity. Her necklaces, made from discarded bullet castings are beautiful and meaningful. Prices range from $75 to $130.

All profits go to the Strongheart Fellowship Program, which helps children that are displaced by conflict. Support a great cause and own a handmade piece of jewelry that literally changes the world for the better.
